Getaway Shootout: the race you win by jumping badly on purpose
Getaway Shootout is a New Eich Games release from 2018, and like Rooftop Snipers and Tube Jumpers it is built on one idea: take away the movement keys. You cannot walk. W jumps you to the left and E jumps you to the right, each hop a stiff-legged lurch that carries you a few feet, and that is how you cover a rooftop course, a moving train, a prison yard or an ice-cliff to reach the getaway vehicle waiting at the far end. Four runners start together; the first to the exit takes the round.
The shooting part comes from the drops. Pistols, shotguns, rockets, sniper rifles and crates with boosters inside land on the course while you run, and R fires whatever you are holding. A rocket sends a rival flying backwards; a jetpack crate carries you over a gap they will have to jump. The build on getawayshootout.me is the original Unity version, served from this domain, so it loads in the page on a school Chromebook with nothing to install. One-player mode gives you three computer rivals; two-player mode puts a friend on I, O and P beside you.
Controls & mechanics
| Action | Control | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Jump left / jump right (P1) | W / E | A tap is a short hop; hold the key for a longer, higher one |
| Fire / use item (P1) | R | Shoots the gun you carry or triggers the booster from a crate |
| Player 2 | I / O / P | Same three actions for the second person on the keyboard |
| Menus | Mouse | Pick 1 Player or 2 Player, choose characters, buy new ones with coins |
How to reach the car first
- Alternate the keys instead of holding one: A held key charges a long jump, but a rhythm of short W-E-E-W taps keeps you upright on flat ground. The characters tip over when a big jump lands badly, and getting back up costs a second you do not have.
- Use the rivals as platforms: Landing on another runner's head is legal and it pushes them into the floor. On the rooftop level a well-timed hop onto the leader sends you past them and knocks them down at the same time.
- Save the rocket for the last gap: Do not fire the moment you pick something up. Rockets and shotguns are worth most where the course narrows near the exit, when the three others are bunched and one shot clears the way.
Key features
- Two keys per player: The whole game runs on jump-left, jump-right and fire, which is why two people fit on one keyboard without touching each other's keys.
- Weapons and boosters that drop mid-race: Guns, explosives, jetpacks, speed boosts and a few nasty surprises appear on the course; every round plays out differently.
- Coins and characters: Wins pay out coins, and coins unlock new runners from the character shop; the differences are cosmetic, the chaos is the same.

Pro tip: The computer runners jump the moment a weapon lands near them, so a crate that drops between two of them is a trap: let them collide over it, then hop past on the outside. Grab the ones that land ahead of the pack instead.
